Millard Named President and CEO of Kenmore Mercy

A message From Joseph McDonald, President and CEO, Catholic Health:

I am pleased to announce that James Millard, President and CEO of St. Joseph Hospital, will become President and CEO of Kenmore Mercy Hospital on January 5, 2009.

Jim succeeds Mary Hoffman, who has served as President and CEO at Kenmore Mercy since 2004. While we regretfully accepted Mary’s resignation earlier this month, we are fortunate to have Jim Millard as the new leader at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

Dennis Dombek, Chairman of the Catholic Health System Acute Care Board of Directors, said, “Jim is a seasoned and tested CEO. His, leadership, compassion, toughness and intelligent decision making are a great fit for Kenmore Mercy Hospital. He knows the hospital and many of its associates and physicians.”

As you know, Jim’s leadership was instrumental in our efforts to save St. Joseph Hospital.

Jim had overall responsibility for the planning and construction of St. Joseph Hospital’s $10 million state-of-the-art emergency department in 2005. He has solid experience to lead future construction projects, including a new emergency department at Kenmore Mercy.

He has developed excellent relationships with the associates and physicians at St. Joseph Hospital, earning their respect and trust. We feel he will do the same at Kenmore
Mercy.

Jim has served as President and CEO of St. Joseph Hospital since 2003. He was Vice President of Operations at Kenmore Mercy, Sisters and St. Joseph hospitals from 1999-2000.

From 2000 to 2003 Jim served as Vice President of Operations at St. Joseph Hospital.

Jim has a long history of service with Catholic Health, beginning in 1981 as an intern in the Pharmacy Department at St. Joseph Hospital.

He served as Director of Pharmacy at St. Joseph from 1987 to 1991. From there, he went on to serve as Director of Pharmacy at Sisters Hospital from 1991 to 1992.

While at Sisters Hospital, Jim developed his administrative skills and was named Assistant Vice President of Operations in 1992. He assumed administrative responsibility
for several clinical, ancillary and support departments.

Jim holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Medaille College and a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Mary Hoffman has accepted a position with Lawley Benefits Group. Her departure from Kenmore Mercy closes a 21 year career with the hospital and Catholic
Health.

Under Mary’s leadership, Kenmore Mercy has become a recognized leader in quality care. The hospital was: named a Designated Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health; recognized for three consecutive years for superior clinical excellence in knee and hip replacement surgery by HealthGrades; named one of the “Top 100 Hospitals - Performance Improvement Leaders in the Country”; rated best for patient satisfaction in nearly every category among hospitals in our region, the state and the nation; the first hospital in Catholic Health to become smoke-free.

During Mary’s tenure as CEO, the hospital has consistently had a strong financial performance. Throughout her career, she has been a great asset to our entire organization and an advocate for quality patient care.

Please join me in congratulating Jim Millard on his appointment and in wishing Mary Hoffman all the best in her new career path.
